Problem One: Am I a Signal?

Even though I have the same name, I can be many things such as music, mathematics or cloth.

I can even be an object thrown by a referee to indicate a penalty.

I can be an extension of the wrapper shaped to finish the head of the cigar.

In England, I’m more refined, because I can be a five-pound note.

It was the last thing
My eyes ever saw.
Now I’m gone, gone for good
Never more shall I be chased
Never more shall I chase my woolly ball
No more shall cross my path again
And no more misfortunes shall I bring.
