Literature review: Aesthetics problem for Arts

This “Ten Problems for Arts in the 2020s” booklet identifies ten relevant areas from very recent contributions put forward at academic level in the form journal articles, conference proceedings and students theses. Ten freely accessible internet references have been selected for each area and direct links are provided at the end of each chapter for own consultation. Our selected references do not intend to mirror ranking indexes nor establish novel classifications. On the contrary, they are meant to represent peer-reviewed, diverse and scientifically-sound case studies for vertical dissemination aimed at non-specialist readers. They will also be able to scoop even more references through the bibliography that is reported at the end of each selected reference.

Without further ado, these are the ten problems that we are going to introduce in this booklet:

  1. education,
  2. authentication,
  3. participation,
  4. entrepreneurship,
  5. aesthetics,
  6. creativity,
  7. technology,
  8. environment,
  9. science,
  10. regulation.

Each problem has its own dedicated chapter made of an introductory section, a short presentation of the ten selected references and a conclusions section.

The final chapter of this booklet will report the conclusions from each chapter again in order to provide a complete executive summary.

5 Aesthetics

THE PROBLEM — Aesthetics is both the object of literature and also the origin of the underlying creative process that make a piece of writing and text as a literary art. In order to understand subjectivities, it is self-narratives that we should rely on. The distinction between pleasing beauty and imaginative integration is important. It is more often death rather than life that in the first instance calls for an explanation. Conceptual framework that can serve as the basis for a scientific aesthetics of art are being developed. On the other hand, local developments lead to changes in the form of any artwork, based on the needs of the respondent community.

CONCLUSIONS — Theories of aesthetics unravel the problems related to issues such as beauty, its essence, the beautiful and the way of understanding and interpreting them. Self-narratives constitute an unsung part of literature. The pleasure of undergoing an aesthetic experience is not mere delight at perceiving something harmonious but the pleasure of forming coherences of incompatibles. Transformations in knowledge and understanding occur in the type of imaginative and emotional lifeworlds people inhabit when confronting death. A recent concept of art on which neuroaesthetics is based appears both conceptually and empirically untenable. Artwork previously known as the language of the lower community is nowadays being shifted and consumed by middle and upper class. The rise of a black creative class in Hollywood overlaps perfectly with the ambitions of the former Black Arts Movement. To tell African story well, a writer must have understood to a large extent its history, tradition and belief system. In order to have identity and narration of the human being and the world, the literary and narratives traditions should be recognized. It is the binary separation of spirit from the physical, a philosophical concept that is posited by Augustine of Hippo, the origin of the separation of heaven and earth, of church and state.
