Literature Review: Business problem for Economy

This “Ten Problems for Economy in the 2020s” booklet identifies ten relevant areas from very recent contributions put forward at academic level in the form journal articles, conference proceedings and students theses. Ten freely accessible internet references have been selected for each area and direct links are provided at the end of each chapter for own consultation. Our selected references do not intend to mirror ranking indexes nor establish novel classifications. On the contrary, they are meant to represent peer-reviewed, diverse and scientifically-sound case studies for vertical dissemination aimed at non-specialist readers. They will also be able to scoop even more references through the bibliography that is reported at the end of each selected reference.

Without further ado, these are the ten problems that we are going to introduce in this booklet:

  1. business,
  2. finance,
  3. policies,
  4. technology,
  5. debt,
  6. labor,
  7. entrepreneurship,
  8. markets,
  9. wealth,
  10. growth.

Each problem has its own dedicated chapter made of an introductory section, a short presentation of the ten selected references and a conclusions section.

The final chapter of this booklet will report the conclusions from each chapter again in order to provide a complete executive summary.

1 Business

THE PROBLEM — The social responsibility of multinationals is moving from an after-thought to a mainstream subject of inquiry, while the vast majority of firms in Europe are still micro firms and traditional markets with modern stores still have an important role in the economic growth of developing countries. Business analytics, lifelong entrepreneurship education and new technology aim to enable organizations to make quicker, better, and more intelligent decisions to create business value.

CONCLUSIONS — Corporate social responsibility is no longer an after-thought but is now front and center as a core concern for managers of multinational enterprises. Financing patterns of micro firms in Europe is not well known. The response strategies adopted by countries and businesses around the world not only determine the survival of many people and businesses but also determine whether the COVID-19 pandemic can be controlled globally. Prescriptive analytics seeks to find the best course of action for the future and is often considered as the next step towards increasing data analytics maturity. The COVID-19 crisis has had only a minor or moderate impact on the Swedish tech SMEs business. A clear division exists in Europe between Western and Eastern companies in terms of ownership concentration and performance, with an impact on businesses’ recovery patterns. Accelerator programs in suburban regions not only support the small and medium enterprises in terms of finance but also in terms of coming up with a solid business plan. Open innovation labs represent a capstone experience where students integrate the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout their years of study. The level of rural tourism in Hungary is much higher than in Serbia and should be taken as an example of good practice. In Pennsylvania, it was found that workers designated as essential have a 55% higher likelihood of being positive for COVID-19 than those classified as non-essential.
