Literature Review: Infrastructure problem for Internet
This “Ten Problems for Internet in the 2020s” booklet identifies ten relevant areas from very recent contributions put forward at academic level in the form journal articles, conference proceedings and students theses. Ten freely accessible internet references have been selected for each area and direct links are provided at the end of each chapter for own consultation. Our selected references do not intend to mirror ranking indexes nor establish novel classifications. On the contrary, they are meant to represent peer-reviewed, diverse and scientifically-sound case studies for vertical dissemination aimed at non-specialist readers. They will also be able to scoop even more references through the bibliography that is reported at the end of each selected reference.
Without further ado, these are the ten problems that we are going to introduce in this booklet:
Each problem has its own dedicated chapter made of an introductory section, a short presentation of the ten selected references and a conclusions section.
The final chapter of this booklet will report the conclusions from each chapter again in order to provide a complete executive summary.
THE PROBLEM — The improvements to Internet infrastructure receive less heralding than a new and shiny app or device. Evolutionary architectures should migrate from mission-centric architectures to a single common, scalable, and reliable architecture. That said, An estimated four billion people worldwide still lack reliable access to the Internet, with the majority concentrated in developing countries. It is also necessary to design the future Internet infrastructure so that it can appropriately balance preventive cybersecurity measures with privacy protections.

CONCLUSIONS — Today Internet infrastructure encompasses root servers, broadband lines, routers, content delivery networks, cloud storage, and cellular towers. A combination of physical infrastructure, network architecture, and technologies to provide communication and navigation services will even lead to interplanetary networks. Satellite Internet has re-emerged in recent years as a viable alternative to the time and energy-intensive practice of laying thousands of miles of fiber optic cable. Relational approaches such as Heterogeneous Infrastructural Configurations could be fruitfully applied to understand Internet of Things interventions, which reconfigure social, political and cultural dynamics. Digital Earth is envisaged as a common platform to support national and international cooperation for global sustainable development, and a newly developing point of economic growth and social wellbeing. Currently, specific legislation that balances preventive cybersecurity with privacy rights has not been specifically enacted in most countries. When you move computer systems and data to the cloud, security responsibilities become shared between you and your cloud service provider. With hackathons, organizations open up technical production to more public participation. As the current Internet architecture was designed for fixed network environments regardless of mobile network environments, future Internet architectures for the emerging network environments are widely discussed in recent research. African countries are special case for having participated/been involved into various technologies development as test-bed.
