Literature Review: Digital Technology problem for Sales

This “Ten Problems for Sales in the 2020s” booklet identifies ten relevant areas from very recent contributions put forward at academic level in the form journal articles, conference proceedings and students’ theses. Ten freely accessible internet references have been selected for each area and direct links are provided at the end of each chapter for own consultation. Our selected references do not intend to mirror ranking indexes nor establish novel classifications. On the contrary, they are meant to represent peer-reviewed, diverse and scientifically-sound case studies for vertical dissemination aimed at non-specialist readers. They will also be able to scoop even more references through the bibliography that is reported at the end of each selected reference.

Without further ado, these are the ten problems that we are going to introduce in this booklet:

  1. digital technology,
  2. conscious consumer,
  3. mobile payments,
  4. agritech,
  5. retail experience,
  6. popular products,
  7. sustainable fashion,
  8. plant-based diet,
  9. digital marketing,
  10. b2c platforms.

Each problem has its own dedicated chapter made of an introductory section, a short presentation of the ten selected references and a conclusions section.

The final chapter of this booklet will report the conclusions from each chapter again in order to provide a complete executive summary.

1 Digital Technology

THE PROBLEM — Digital technology offers new ways to create new value for all stakeholders, while making business models more inclusive, sustainable and trustworthy. 5G will be critical because it will enable unprecedented levels of connectivity. Both e-commerce and live streaming shopping are increasingly replacing in-store retail shopping.

CONCLUSIONS — Today, media delivery is externalized to the market and devolved to a network of suppliers or tech giants with global capabilities. Yet being digital-at-the-core by itself is not enough, societal as well as economic values must be created. The Fourth Industrial Revolution’s full potential will be fully realized through the wide-scale deployment of 5G communication networks. Live streaming shopping can happen in two ways: live streaming embedded in e-commerce, or e-commerce integrated into live streaming. User experience designers need to separate themselves from their users and work to uncover real user problems. Over the last few years, streaming services, and Spotify in particular, have made an increasing amount of data available to different stakeholders on a daily basis. Social live streaming services is becoming popular worldwide for its real-time interaction and successful commercial model. Little is known about ‘uninformative live-streaming’, a new genre of online streaming media that has become a new trend in China. An important convergence by Competition Authorities in the BRICS zone is that the multifaceted and global nature of the digital economy calls for increased cooperation. The consumption of non-linear content via internet-connected devices, such as smart TVs and other multimedia devices, rose sharply in March 2020 because of the pandemic.
