Literature Review: Funding problem for Fashion
This “Ten Problems for Fashion in the 2020s” booklet identifies ten relevant areas from very recent contributions put forward at academic level in the form journal articles, conference proceedings and students’ theses. Ten freely accessible internet references have been selected for each area and direct links are provided at the end of each chapter for own consultation. Our selected references do not intend to mirror ranking indexes nor establish novel classifications. On the contrary, they are meant to represent peer-reviewed, diverse and scientifically-sound case studies for vertical dissemination aimed at non-specialist readers. They will also be able to scoop even more references through the bibliography that is reported at the end of each selected reference.
Without further ado, these are the ten problems that we are going to introduce in this booklet:
- human rights,
- social media,
Each problem has its own dedicated chapter made of an introductory section, a short presentation of the ten selected references and a conclusions section.
The final chapter of this booklet will report the conclusions from each chapter again in order to provide a complete executive summary.
THE PROBLEM — Globally, the fashion industry is estimated at about $1.2 trillion but, in its current linear business model of fast-fashion, it is one of today’s most unsustainable global businesses. Free market analysis does not hold for companies in the fashion industry for two reasons: overemphasized profit-maximization and an underdeveloped regulatory environment.

CONCLUSIONS — It is highly recommended to partner with multiple suppliers to reduce risks, increase total contribution margin and find the most cost-efficient suppliers for materials in manufacturing apparel. The most salient feature in determining a fashion brand’s sustainability commitment is managerial focus. Philanthropic foundations mostly influence fundamental norms for sustainability in the fashion industry through sharing knowledge. There are four main global fashion capitals: New York, Paris, Milan and London. A copyright framework where fashion designs face extra challenges compared to works of pure art when reaching for protection is facilitating the so-called ‘fast fashion’ phenomenon and business. Many sources of influence we look to today are sponsored by companies that reap profits from the continuance of fast fashion. The number of followers on the blog does not influence the ability of a fashion blogger to transition to a full-time entrepreneur. The dynamic technical features, outcomes, and affordances of social platforms make them a more customizable medium for fashion content creators against the backdrop of blogs. Fashion sharing websites focused on effective usability, accessibility, and product hygiene ensure sustainable fashion sharing remains stable. As processes of deindustrialization gathered pace, the Victoria and Albert museum assisted the construction of London’s distinctive reputation for innovation through exhibitions that made connections between the fashion industry and the city’s subcultures and street cultures.
